Please join us for our first ever Field day – We will be coming together to look at off grid and wireless communications at Skinner Field!
Traditionally, “Field Day” is an amateur radio event held on the 4th weekend in June when the amateur radio people/clubs test their equipment from remote locations in the field.
What is WMCUG Field Day? This will be a day for us to come together at a remote location to talk about, show off, and test our remote networking equipment and other off grid communications gear (ham or gmrs anyone?). The park has WiFi provided by the City and County, so bring your WiFi extenders, cellular hot spots, and other equipment to show off and demo to the group. Are you looking to have access to the internet while mobile or “working remote”? Come see what your peers use and how it works for them. Starlink Internet will also be available/tested at site (we will see if we have unobstructed views of sky). We will have power available on site, and space under the pavilion in case of rain.
**Please bring your equipment to show operation and share your experiences with others. Everyone is looking for real world experiences with various technologies.**
This will be a longer event (4 hours) so we can test and “play” with various equipment, feel free to come for all or part of the event. We will have picnic tables, and there are a couple of grills in the park (first come first serve), this is a BYOE event (Bring Your Own Everything, drink, food, and gear). There are also many great local take-out options in Cedar Springs. (No alcohol without city council approval, which the group is not seeking).
